Octave Terriah's name changes in different sites. In Genealogy.com its Octab.. I can't get in because I am not a member. LDS has him as Octavus-Nicolas. And on the 1871 census they have him as Octab Terrian. On grandpa's army papers they also have the name Ferriah instead of Terriah. No wonder we had a hard time locating them. From what I know in the beginning the name was terrion, terrien.

Subject: Re: William (Bill) Terriah info
Good morning,
A branch of the Terriah family was 'connected' to a Cameron family descended from a couple named John Angus Cameron b c 1817 and his wife, Sarah MacMillan, b c 1823. My Cameron family was not related to the above mentioned John Angus Cameron, but there was a 'connection' through Sarah MacMillan but I have not yet been able to trace her line. (I descend from four different lines of MacMillans, making it rather difficult to pinpoint a relationship without family papers on that line).
The following might be of inerest:
Margaret Cameron, , b April 23rd, 1849,Finch Township, Stormont County(SDandG), died June 30th, 1919, Bainsville, Ontario(Glengarry County==SDandG))daughter of John Angus Cameron and Sarah MacMillan, She married Octave Nicholas Terriah(1843- born May 29th in Quebec, died 1929, Cornwall, Ontario(SDandG) They had,
1) Janet Terriah (1887-1968..born January 28th, 1887 in Bainsville, Ontaario. died September 28th, 1968, Montreal, Quebec. She married John Christopher Russell, born in Montreal Quebec, in September 30th, 1912, Bainsville..
2) John A. Terriah(born September 15th, 1889 in Bainsville, Ontario, died November 1907 in Manitoba.
3) Joseph Terriah (b May 29th, 1876.
4) William Terriah b December 18th, 1884, died in Cornwall.
The foregoing list is incomplete and I do not have the descendants listed of Joseph and William Terriah. The information was given to me by Mrs. Doreen (Mrs. Allan Forbes) The email address I have for Mr. and Mrs. Forbes is aldoeforbes@rogers.com. [144 Timber Crescent, London, Ontario, N6K 2W2]Doreen's gt grandfather, Nicholas Octave Terriah and his wife, Margaret Cameron Terriah, are buried in the graveyard at St. Andrews United Church, Concession 1, Lancaster Township, Glengarry County, near Bainsville), along with several great aunts and uncles.
Coincidentally, a friend of mine, Jean Cameron(her husband was a Cameron born in Glasgow) who, sadly, passed away three years ago, descended from John Angus Cameron and Sarah MacMillan, through her maternal grandmother, Mary Anne Cameron, the above mentioned Margaret Cameron Terriah's sister. Jean's maiden name was 'Forsyth'. [there was a Forsyth family in Finch Township)
So far, it has been difficult to trace John Angus Cameron's line, although it is thought he might have been a descendant of Angus Cameron(only supposition] who settled on Lot 16, Concession 5, Cornwall, Township[after Am. Revol.), whose son, Donald Cameron(d 1822--Will) later settled on the ninth of Cornwall Township, then settled on Lot 6, Concession 1, Roxborough Township(adjacent to Finch Township). This is only a theor
It is very difficult to 'trace' back on the Cameron families of Finch Township(and Roxborough) without family papers, because 'first' names were so similar among the Camerons, i.e. Donald Cameron(my gt gt grandfather was Donald Cameron, but unrelated to Donald Cameron of Lot 6- Concession 1, Roxborough) In the same way, the MacMillan families also shared similar first names. .
I hope the above information will be of help to you.
All the best,
Margaret Cameron
