William Legge, 1st Earl of Dartmouth

William Legge, 1st Earl of Dartmouth was born on 14 October 1672.3 He was the son of George Legge, 1st Baron Dartmouth and Barbara Archibald.3 He married Lady Anne Finch, daughter of Heneage Finch, 1st Earl of Aylesford and Elizabeth Banks, in July 1700.3 He died on 15 December 1750 at age 78.
He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Dartmouth, of Dartmouth, Devon [E., 1682] on 25 October 1691.3 He held the office of Principal Secretary of State in 1710.3 He was created 1st Viscount Lewisham, of co. Kent [Great Britain] on 5 September 1711.3 He was created 1st Earl of Dartmouth [Great Britain] on 5 September 1711.3 He held the office of Lord Privy Seal in 1713.3 He held the office of Lord Justice in 1714.3
