Of his son, Robert Maclaren, of Bainsford, it was said his "ancestor who was Charlie’s (the Bonnie Prince) brigadier of artillery took some pot shots at Stirling castle on his way south - which was unpopular (not sure why this was a big deal but there you are)". From Jean Greer whose father, John Frederick Peverell Maclaren, commissioned the report ROBERT MACLAREN OF BAINSFORD (in the notes under Robert Maclaren, of Bainsford), she has also provided further family information.

      Ay Hamish,
It could be so ... but my GGG G-M Margaret was a hypothetical choice as the only one appearing in OPRs born around 1770s, christened 19 June, 1775 to Robert McLaren and Margaret Lowrie ….. married in Falkirk in 1792 (young!) and then had a Robert and Margaret Rennie in her subsequent large family [but not in the accepted precedence re-Grandparents]. GGG G-M -Mgt. (McLaren) Rennie, we presume (only ... no gravestone etc) died around 1818 as her widower Andrew Rennie remarried in July 1919.

      Ay John
      .....
It is great that you found a record of Margaret Maclaren’s christening, showing her christening date and the name of her father as Robert. I had not be able to find his first name. Do you know where the christening was? That might help get more on her brother Robert.
      .....
Your “hypothetical choice” of that Margaret Maclaren as the wife of Andrew Rennie, seems to have been a good one. It seems that Margaret Lowrie married twice. The first time to a Robert Maclaren, having children Margaret and Robert, and the second marriage in 1786 to an Andrew Liddell, a schoolmaster at Bainsford, having a son Andrew on 20th December 1789. As you can see below in parts of a Preliminary Report and final Report on Robert MacLaren of Bainsford that was done for a cousin of my father sometime, I think, in the 1950’s.
      .....
In part of the Preliminary Report below, a contract between Margaret Maclaren’s brother Robert and his wife Margaret Shaw, Andrew Renny is referred to as “our Brother in law”.
      .....
Also, as shown below in part of the Report, in the will of Andrew Liddell (junior)’s (1789-1854) he “makes bequests to the children of the late Andrew Renny, Sawyer at Carron, and of his first wife, Margaret McLaren who was Andrew Liddell's sister uterine.” By “sister uterine” I am assuming it means half sister, having the same mother. It lists those children and the daughters’ husbands. So that seems like pretty good confirmation that your “hypothetical choice” was correct.
